An abstract condenses a scientific paper to its essentials, ensuring the core information is clear without the need to read the entire document.

Conference organizers typically impose page or character limits. This restricts the length of the document, thereby reducing the workload for reviewers and, if desired, ensuring a uniform format for publication in an abstract volume.

Depending on the conference, submissions may include images or formulas. These and other requirements, such as format, language, and topic areas, are specified by the organizers.

The essential components of an abstract are:

  • a descriptive title
  • the chosen topic area
  • the objectives
  • the authors' theory
  • the central research question
  • the conclusion of the work
  • where applicable, references
  • author information
